Understanding the Strengths of the Oracle E-business ERP and CRM System

The Oracle E-business ERP and CRM System can be used at its maximum once a firm fully understands what it can do and where it can be applied.

The Oracle E-business ERP and CRM System can be used at its maximum once a firm fully understands what it can do and where it can be applied.

As businesses continue to face the challenges of global trade, a very high premium is placed on two business solutions: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. The Oracle E-business ERP and CRM System (more popularly known as the e-business suite or EBS) is the Oracle Company-ss version.

Oracle Corporation is a California-based firm that develops and markets information management software. The EBS packages the ERP and CRM systems with other computer applications in order to enable firms to wholly address issues on operations, customer relations, and other processes related to the firm-ss major activity. The EBS’ strength primarily comes from the technology which Oracle has developed and perfected: the relational database management system. Industry insiders and users claim that this specific technology is secure and reliable.

The EBS has several modules, each with a corresponding license, hence, it gives a firm the flexibility to execute one, several, or all modules at a given period. It serves as a “one-stop shop” for all employees in various departments. The EBS can also be designed to specifically suit the needs of a firm that has to face conditions inherent to a particular industry. Moreover, it is bundled with the Application Integration Architecture, a standards-based application which allows the incorporation of a firm-ss current applications within the EBS. As such, a firm that adopts the EBS does not incur costs relating to the removal or non-utilization of existing applications. The system in itself reduces costs both in its principal purpose and capacity to absorb other applications.

Oracle has designed the EBS with the global user in mind. It supports multi-language operations, which is very strategic for international firms with local employees in their country offices. The EBS is composed of eight principal modules; there are more modules available that address the specific needs of a particular firm. The Oracle CRM features a structure built for sales and sales-related concerns. Coupled with its multi-language platform, the CRM puts the firm in a “customer first” framework. The Oracle Financials tracks and maintains movements in items relating to the Balance Sheet. The other modules include Supply-Chain Management (SCM), Projects (for project-specific management), Logistics (for warehouse management), Order Management, Transportation Management, and the Human Resource Management Systems.

The available modules in the EBS largely reinforce sales-related activities. The firms that stand to benefit most are in the industries of retail and wholesale, manufacturing, telecommunications, and utilities. All these industries require strong customer support and extensive sales programs in order to effectively achieve strong investment returns. Combined with its multi-language capability, customer-oriented international firms stand to benefit the most.

As it leans more towards sales process and management, the EBS enables firms to have a real-time detailed view of products, prices, and processes. Through its Sales module, accurate and on-time sales analysis can be generated. This is critical especially when dealing with a volatile and fast-evolving market. As a result, decisions are enhanced to become more pro-active through the design and execution of an effective sales program. Considering the orientation and cost of the EBS, large-scale firms with an international market would stand to benefit most from it.

Firms that are intent on taking advantage of the benefits derived from the Oracle E-business ERP and CRM System must accurately evaluate their specific needs and requirements to maximize their returns. If the business activity-ss orientation is on customers in order to derive sales, the EBS would be optimally used.
